Committed to Berlin

The DeutSCHule Helps with more than just German!

As a company in the education sector, the deutSCHule takes its social responsibility very seriously. This is why we are happy to be successfully engaged in various social projects in Neukölln, Berlin and beyond. Berlin is undergoing a rapid transformation, from a slightly-ruined cultural centre to a startup metropolis and a successful business location. Unfortunately, not all people can benefit equally from this development. That’s why the deutSCHule puts so much emphasis on its social commitment.

responseBERLIN

THE LANGUAGE SCHOLARSHIP FOR THE SOCIALLY COMMITTED

responseBERLIN offers two young people the chance to receive professional German lessons free of charge for six months. The language is rightly regarded as one of the most important keys to successful integration into society. Outside of the German lessons, the scholarship holders are given the opportunity to gain intensive impressions of social work by volunteering in a social institution in Neukölln. In this way, active integration is made possible through the recognition of one’s own responsibility and the contribution of one’s own abilities, while enriching a solidarity society.

The Queer Stammtisch of die deutSCHule

OUR FRIENDLY GET-TOGETHER IN BERLIN

At the Queer Stammtisch of the die deutSCHule, queer teachers and students can get to know each other better over a beer or wine and support each other. The idea of this friendly get-together is to find an informal way for all people from the LGBTQIA spectrum to meet regularly, make contacts and – of course – improve their German. Because even in a cosmopolitan city like Berlin, it can be hard to find places where we feel safe to be ourselves.

The Queer Stammtisch usually takes place every second Monday in the Bar Ludwig from 17.30 onwards.

The contact person for all LGBTQIA topics is our Diversity Manager, Emma Johnson. If you have any questions, requests or suggestions, you can contact Emma by email. Or you can just talk to her in the deutSCHule Café.

The die deutSCHule Christmas lottery

DONATE TO THE FUTURE OF BERLIN

Every year during Advent, the die deutSCHule collects donations for a selected charitable organisation. In recent years we have regularly collected large sums of money to realise some excellent social projects in Berlin. In 2018, for example, the die deutSCHule was able to make possible the Christmas dinner of the Haus Phönix, a self-help project for addicts in Pankow. In 2017, all of the money went to the Kältehilfe/Kältebus Berlin, which gives warmth to the homeless during the cold winter in Berlin.

The Berlin Civic Involvement Network

SUPPORTING THE 'ACTIVE IN BERLIN' PROJECT

Commitment in Berlin; Logo of the Landesnetzwerkes für Bürgerengagement

Since 2018 the deutSCHule has been an active member of the Berlin Civic Involvement Network (Landesnetzwerk Bürgerengagement Berlin). We regularly take part in meetings and help our committed partners in the civil activist network to make Berlin even fairer, friendlier and more supportive.
